NEXT 2010 Conference: Day Four & Five

Our last day in Baltimore, MD. The NEXT 2010 Conference was coming to a close. At least we had the road trip back to look forward to! We packed our bags and loaded them into the van(s). I remember feeling sad that we were heading into the last session of the conference. So much anticipation, and so quickly it was over!

Session Seven: Eschatology (Jeff Purswell):

This message was really encouraging and a great way to end the conference. Instead of talking about his views on the end times, Jeff talked mainly talked about what really matters, and that is the One that is returning!

“Eschatology assures us that God’s purposes will prevail and it motivate us to live faithfully until they do. It is meant have effect on our lives! Our attitude towards the return of Christ reveals where and what our hearts are fixed on. It reveals where our hope is. Is my hope in the return of Jesus Christ or is it in other things?” –Jeff Purswell

The Trip Back to Minnesota:

I think we left Baltimore around 1:30pm. We made stops every two to three hours for meal and/or bathroom breaks. There was a pretty awesome thunderstorm that evening and we were playing catch phrase during it. Oh yes…it was quite interesting! It was THE MOST intense game of catch phrase I have ever played.

Aaron D’s wonderful in-laws graciously allowed the eleven of us to spend the night at their house right off of Michigan Lake. We arrived there around 12:30/1am. After unpacking our stuff into the house, we took off for a late night walk by the lake. We walked to a nearby sand dune. It took a good 20 minutes to get there. We all slowly suffered up the long and steep dune, but it was so worth it. After several minutes up on top of the dune, some of us decided to run back down. Once you got running down, there was nothing stopping you. The wind swiftly blew through my hair…it was the closest feeling I have ever had to flying. We got back to the house shortly after 3am. We talked for awhile and then headed to bed. By the time I got to sleep it was after 4am!

We were able to sleep in until 10:30am. Oh, it was so nice! Cindy (Aaron D’s mother-in-law), made us coffee and a delicious breakfast. Once again, we all went around and shared what was the main thing that we took away from the conference. You can see now that we had many opportunities throughout the trip to think about what the Lord taught us and how we can practically apply it to our lives. Praise God for our wonderful leaders, Eric and Aaron D!

After breakfast, some of us went to back down to the lake to swim. We spent an hour or so there, enjoying the cool water and the sun. I forgot to put on sunscreen, so I got a pretty bad sunburn. We left the house around 2pm.

The rest of the trip back: We played more catch phrase, slept, talked about lots of issues, read books that we brought on the trip and listened to music. We stopped at McDonalds for supper and then got back on the road. We arrived back in Minneapolis at 9pm on June 1st.

I am so excited for NEXT 2011 in Orlando. Lord willing, I will be going and I pray that I learn as much, and even more than I did this year.

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” –Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV)
